Another reason why I love baseball...
Sometimes, if rarely, Chan Ho Park will outpitch Pedro Martinez.
Their lines from Monday:
P. Martinez (L, 12-4) 5.0 9 5 5 0 4 2 3.00
C. Park (W, 1-0) 5.2 6 2 2 1 8 0 6.30
Padres 8, Mets 3

Fitting follow-through.
This past Sunday afternoon, I popped into a local sports bar this past sunday afternoon to sit down, rest, eat, drink, plan out the week, and watch Pedro pitch against the Dodgers. And he took a no-hitter into the eighth inning, before Antonio Perez hit one off the wall that the injured Carlos Beltran might've gotten to, but which Gerald Williams couldn't flag down. One swing of Jayson Werth's bat later, and the Dodgers give Brad Penny a 2-1 lead, which he nails down in the ninth inning.
Great game, and a true pitching duel, much like Pedro/Smoltz earlier this year (which my sister witnessed in person). Martinez is one of the greats of our time, a pleasure to watch in action, and when I think of him, here's what I think: 'There's a man who does his job well, is paid well, and who does it in front of the largest city of the world.'
